Circumstance:

While operating a motorcycle, Officer Scoville was chasing a speeding auto.  He collided with a garbage truck at 5th and Q streets, NW, and was thrown from the bike. The motorcycle flipped in the air and landed on the officer’s chest killing him.

Biography:

Policeman Scoville was married. He was considered one of the most efficient members of the Traffic Bureau and had been cited three times for efficiency and bravery.

BODY OF POLICEMAN SENT TO OHIO HOME
STATION HOUSE FLAGS TO BE AT HALF-MAST UNTIL AFTER SCOVILLE BURIAL.
The body of Policeman Frank J. Scoville, of the Traffic Bureau, who was killed Tuesday in an automobile accident, was sent to Geneva, Ohio, last night for burial. Six members of the Traffic Bureau took the body to the station.

All flags at police precinct stations will remain at half-mast until after the funeral today. A verdict of accidental death in connection with Policeman Scoville’s death was returned yesterday after an inquest. Evidence showed that he was driving at high speed and that the collision with the truck, driven by Bertram Bryant, of 230 First street southeast, could not have been averted.

Policeman Scoville is survived by his wife. He was considered one of the most efficient members of the Traffic Bureau and had been cited three times for efficiency and bravery.
