The history of the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department is as rich as the history of the nation’s capital itself.
Since the founding of the MPD by President Abraham Lincoln in 1861, the Metropolitan Police Department has served the citizens of the District of Columbia and the many VIPs and visitors who come here. The Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Memorial and Museum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is working to preserve the legacy of the officers of the MPD and the unique history of policing in the nation’s capital.
A collection of stories and artifacts will be an important part of our attempting to honor the thousands of police officers who have served the city over its lifetime. The Museum will be an exciting place for visitors to see what it’s been like over the years to walk in the steps of an MPD officer.

Museum Progress
As of September, 2024, the Museum is working hand-in-hand with the DC MPD and the DLR Group to determine what the museum should look like and what exhibits it should contain initially. The early concept rendering images here represent the impressive first steps toward our MPD Police Museum to be located on the 11th floor of 441 4th Street, NW, across from the Police Federal Credit Union.
Please help us make the museum a reality by donating what you can to our 503(c)3 nonprofit organization. Donations are tax-deductible.
