We are proud and excited to have broken ground on the renovation of the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Memorial and the construction of a new Memorial Wall. On July 14th at 2pm, members of the MPD watched proudly as efforts got underway to improve and expand on the current memorial built to honor police officers of the DC MPD that have died in the line of duty throughout the history of the department – 125 in total.  This effort is 12 years in the making.

Pat Collins of News 4 hosted the ceremony and comments were made by Donald Blake, Chair of the Board and Don Graham, chairman of Graham Holdings Company and former Publisher of The Washington Post.  Graham, also a former MPD patrolman, is a critical part of the project, pledging a substantial amount toward funding the project.  Watch the ceremony below and see photos from the event.
